Current Competition

Today, Sunday 2nd September, we have started the 70s Soul Selection competition. For this we have selected 8 artists, listed below, that mainly had their hits in the 70s and these records were classed as Soul and DISCO.
Here are the 8 artists
The Chi-Lites The Stylistics The Real Thing Heatwave The OJays Tavares Earth Wind and Fire Barry White
In order to win the cash prize for this you must select the prize year range, 1971 to 1979, and get the most artist bias points by the closing date of 15/09/2007. If you want to understand more about the types of competitions and how artist bias points work then please see http://www.ultquiz.co.uk/faq.php . Please note selecting the 70s button does not count it must be 1971 to 1979 (press the Prize Years button).
Thanks for Howie Ross for suggesting this artist theme and you too can suggest other artist themes and prize year ranges, just email at info@ultquiz.co.uk
Forthcoming competitions include The Beat Club, Its A Rap and Pop Families. I plan to do Pop Families over Xmas.
I am also thinking of doing a further 5 decade prize year competitions, so we can see who the current champions are for the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and when the 2007 questions are available a new 00s (possibly in February next year). Let me know if you would like this to be an annual event.
Winners and Rankings
Now on to the winners and we have an anomaly, as the bonus prize winner is currently ranked higher than the first prize winner.
Let me explain, Stewart Lennox was the winner 2 competitions ago so is ineligible, Si Harris won the last competition so is ineligible, Graham Mather did not chose the prize years, Howie Ross was a winner 3 competitions ago, but is back in play for the Soul Selection competition, and Simon Large did not select the prize years, so the first prize winner (cue drum roll) is Michael McCarthy.
Michael comes from Cheshire and previous competition prizes include the bonus prize for Class of 84 and coming second for the Single Year competition back in March. Well done Michael.
Graham Mather from North Yorkshire wins the bonus prize (the penultimate OCC Goodies, as seen on http://www.ultquiz.co.uk/prize.php) , this prize is awarded to the highest placed player who has not previously won a first prize or a bonus prize before. Graham is very new to UltQuiz and only started playing the full game in the last fortnight. Well done Graham.
26 players qualified for the Hall of Fame this time, and here are the top 10 listed below :
1 ( 1 ) Stewart Lennox 2 ( 2 ) Si Harris 3 (NE) Graham Mather 4 ( 6 ) Howie Ross 5 (NE) Simon Large 6 (RE) Michael McCarthy 7 ( 5 ) Neil Morrison 8 ( 7 ) Matthew Clegg 9 (RE) Michael Ward 10 ( 8 ) Gary Egan
Where NE is a new player to UltQuiz, and RE is a previous player rejoining the top 10.
Game News
Last week further fixes went in to fix the game freezes, and touch wood, have not seen any further issues since. Please let me know if you see any more. This time we disabled the buttons until they are fully loaded on the screen, so hopefull this will have the desired effect.
Some players are experiencing issues if they leave the game and come back an hour or so later, please note if you do that I can not guarantee your score will update or go on the hall of fame, so please beware at the moment.
Site News
Happy Birthday UltQuiz. UltQuizs first competition started on 23rd August 2006, so now the on-line version of UltQuiz is just over 1 year old.
Competition Schedule
02/09/2007 - 15/09/2007 -- Soul Selection 16/09/2007 - 29/09/2007 -- Freestyle 3 30/09/2007 - 13/10/2007 -- Best Freestyle Range 14/10/2007 - 27/10/2007 -- Stock, Aitken and Waterman 28/10/2007 - 10/11/2007 -- Boy Bands
SAW started producing records for Hazel Dean and Divine in 1984 and their first number 1 with You Spin Me Round for Dead or Alive in 1985. In the late 80s they were at their most prolific, and they produced their last LP for Bananarama in 1993 called Please Yourself. So this competition will have the range 1984 to 1993.
Boy bands have been around for sometime but the modern day boy bands really started in 1989 with New Kids on The Block, taking us through Take That, Boyzone, Backstreet Boys and Blue, and bringing us right up to date. So thie year range will be 1989 to 2006.
