Current Competition

Today, Sunday 22nd July, we start the favourite five year range competition. The years in play are 1985 to 1989 as chosen by both Stewart Lennox and Si Harris. So the highest score by the closing date of the 4th August, who selected these years via the sliders or the prize year button, will win the prize.

The winner will get the £25 cash prize and the bonus prize of the OCC goodies (see http://www.ultquiz.co.uk/prize.php) will be awarded to the highest ranked player who has not won a first prize or the bonus prize.

The votes have been received for the favourite theme and we had some cracking themes suggested. Howie came up with two good ones Soul Selection and Stock Aitken and Waterman which I will do both before the year is out. Si came up with a few but the best two were Manchester Bands and August Number 1s. So I have decided to pick August Number 1s. See the competition schedule below for further details on how this will work. Please note Manchester Bands (Smiths, Charlatans, Stones Roses etc.) will be featured in the next few months.

Winners and Rankings

Stewart Lennox did very well again leading for practically all the competition, but this time is the last time he is not eligible to win. For the next competition Stewart Lennox is back in play as his 60 days are up. So the cash prize falls to our second placed player Howie Ross from Middlesex who now wins his fourth competition and this is a new record. Well done Howie. Howie is the first to break the 4 competition wins barrier. Looking at the other competitions, Stewart Lennox and Si Harris are tied at 3 competition wins each, and in third place are Gary Egan and Robert Richland tied on 2 competitions each. For all the winners check out http://www.ultquiz.co.uk/winner.php

The bonus prize this time goes to Lynne Arundell from Middlesex, as Stewart, Howie, Si and Gary have all won previous first prizes. Now as you may notice Lynne did not choose the prize years but this does not matter for the bonus prize as it is the highest player score that has not won a first prize that counts. Lynne has been a regular player since January this year and best previous result was coming 7th on the Double Decade (60s and 70s) back in April. Well done Lynne.

Here are the rankings :

 1 ( 1 ) Stewart Lennox
 2 ( 5 ) Howie Ross
 3 ( 4 ) Si Harris
 4 ( 2 ) Gary Egan
 5 (12) Lynne Arundell
 6 (RE) Christopher Hallinan
 7 ( 9 ) Matthew Clegg
 8 ( 6 ) Michael McCarthy
 9 ( 7 ) Neil Morrison
10( 3 ) Steve Cann

Where RE is a previous player coming back into the top ten.

Game News

Some great news, we have been looking at some of the problems over the last couple of weeks and have managed to find fixes for most of them. This includes hangman freezing, 'undefined's showing up, timer clocks showing NA while getting stuck, and FLASH / activeX timeouts. I have also discovered a number of duplicates in the current database, and these will be fixed next week, by uploading a new database and the other fixes. These duplicates were causing the program to hang on occasion.

This upload will also include a couple of new features. For artist specific competitions (the next one is the Spice Girls, starting 5th August, there will now be a running artist score by the regular score on the top right just above the game board. A second feature is a timer being added to hangman. This will come into effect when you are down to your last hangman life, if this times out you will use a regular life as well, just the same as getting the hangman wrong.
